God’s Own Country’s diverse colours and cuisines come together during Onam, which reaches its pinnacle on the auspicious day of Thiruvonam. Onam unites people from all over the world in a celebration that is unheard of on the planet as it honours the return of a mythological, good ruler named ruler Mahabali. Beautiful floral carpets (Pookkalam) are used to embellish homes, traditional activities and art are practised everywhere, and dwellings are kept immaculately clean. Every home serves extravagant, lavish feasts (Onasadya), which are followed by mouthwatering payasam (a traditional Kerala dessert), ensuring that the message of unity and hope is disseminated widely.
